About
If you're wandering the streets of Florence with a hunger for authentic Italian cuisine, look no further than Trattoria Da Ruggero. Nestled on Via Senese, 89 Rosso, this charming eatery offers a delightful escape from the bustling tourist traps, beckoning diners with its warm and welcoming atmosphere.
According to customers who have savored the offerings here, the portions are generous and the food absolutely sublime. Each dish is an invitation to experience the rich culinary heritage of Florence. One enthusiastic diner, Conor Fox, praised a "phenomenal" regional dish recommended by the gracious host. This personal touch is a hallmark of Da Ruggero, where the staff takes pride in ensuring every guest feels at home.
Among the standout items, the bistecca fiorentina frequently garners high praise, alongside a variety of delectable pasta dishes that break away from the usual tourist fare. Milutin Svircev mentioned that the menu offers delightful surprises, showcasing local flavors rather than the predictable Carbonara or Bolognese.
The ambiance adds to the charm. Regular diners like Sarah Keller describe the inviting, family-like environment created by the friendly staff, making it easy to see why some patrons return multiple times during their stay. With every visit, the restaurant becomes not just a dining experience but a cherished memory in the heart of Florence.
However, a word of advice: reservations are essential. As Don Varley Jr. notes, despite the excellent service, the eager atmosphere also means that tables are in high demand. Timing is crucial, especially if you feel relaxed and wish to linger over dessert.
Even if the house white wine might not hit the mark for some, the overall experience at Trattoria Da Ruggero is shaped by the quality of the food, the care in service, and the undeniable connection to the local culture. So, if you're in Florence and seeking a local gem, make sure to trek over to this hidden culinary haven. You won’t regret it!
“ Very good portions, extremely lovely food, friendly and inviting atmosphere from the host. He recommended a typical dish from the region, I didn't catch the name but it was absolutely phenomenal. I have been to Italy many times and this was one of the best meals I've had, it's slightly further outside of the city, but worth the walk / bus! ”
“ My husband and I loved this restaurant SO much when we were in Florence that we ended up going a second time. The best meal we had in Florence by far. The staff were lovely and very welcoming, and we felt right at home. Highly recommend! ”
“ Amazing experience of local food of Florence ! The taste, quality, service, qualities , everything was outstanding. The restaurant is out of the touristic area, but for sure worth visiting. However, the reservation is required to get a spot for delicious meals :) ”
“ On the south side of the Arno river a casual local eatery that caterers to locals and visitors alike. Reservations are a must. The bistecca fiorentina was excellent, as were the pasta dishes and desert. The only issue was after our meal we were asked to leave because they needed the table for another reservation. Our reservation was for 7:30-9:30 and it was only 9:10. We understood and complied but still I never had a request to leave a restaurant. lol ”
“ We came to the restaurant based on our host’s recommendation, and we weren’t disappointed. The food was excellent—the pasta dishes were not the typical tourist options like Carbonara or Bolognese, and the service was also outstanding. What did spoil the experience a bit was the house white wine served by the glass—I strongly advise against ordering it. It’s a shame that such a detail slightly diminished an otherwise great impression. ”
“ The food is really fresh and everything just so delight even the environment got old money still that you can see this is the place quiet authentic! If you are at area this is the place you really have to go ”
“ A friend encouraged us to try this spot ~20 min walk from Ponte Vecchio - well worth the travel. Was my favorite meal I had in all of Italy. Fresh, hot, homemade - the staff kindly split the dishes into two portions for us: we shared the caprese salad molto bene freshest tomatoes and basil, ragu tortellini pasta (can’t stop thinking about this) and meatballs. Had cheesecake for dessert it was to die for. Highly highly recommend. Friendly servers, truly felt like an authentic home cooked meal. Affordable for so much food + bottle of wine. A must go while in Florence! Call to make a reservation because it gets busy! Great local spot. ”
“ Simple, rustic charm. Full of lots of local families, always a good sign. The tomato pasta was simply the best pasta dish we have ever tasted anywhere in Italy - looked and tasted too good that we forgot to photograph before tucking in! The food looks so simple but the quality and flavour is excellent. REALLY good value too - because it's a bit outside of the main area and on the South side of the river which is generally better quality and value anyway as it's less touristy. Must book in advance. Well worth the effort - 20 min stroll from river. ”
